Joss Whedon on Dollhouse

by the_real_linda @ 2008-07-28 - 02:20:40

Writer/creator Joss Whedon told attendees of the "Dollhouse" panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday that he is shooting a second pilot to the new Fox drama in order to better introduce viewers into the world he is creating with the show. Whedon said while he is pleased with the pilot that already exists, the new one – planned as a prequel at this stage – is aimed at better setting-up some of the back story to the Dollhouse organization as well as its cast of characters.

Whedon admitted that Fox was a bit weary of the initial pilot and how the viewer would be thrust into the "Dollhouse" world with well-established characters and little introduction. He added that the decision to do the second shoot was in no way a slam against the initial pilot, which he said he believes is great.

Whedon was asked during the Q&A about the string of fan sites that have already popped up asking the populace to 'Save Dollhouse' – all of this before any of its episode have aired. He said while he appreciated the fandom aspect, he was weary of the message it might send about the show to the general public. He didn't want to couch "Dollhouse" as a show in trouble or something that would only appeal to a niche audience before it even hits the small screen.

He added that while the show is different – no vampires or space ships – it is still about people and, more specifically, their souls – a reoccurring theme in most of his work.

Whedon said that he is open to adding more "Buffy"/"Angel"/"Firefly" alumni to the cast joining Eliza Dushku and Amy Acker, but that he was also excited about the current cast he has assembled, which includes "Battlestar Galactica's" Tahmoh Penikett as FBI Agent Paul Ballard.

Fox has contracted for 13 episodes of "Dollhouse" to air starting in January 2009.

Lost

by the_real_linda @ 2008-07-28 - 02:19:18

As fans entered the enormous Hall H at the San Diego Comic-Con, feaurettes from the upcoming "Lost" season four DVD played on the television. In one hilarious segment, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse discuss the switch to flashforwards which, itself, jumps to the two showrunners looking back on season four from the year 2011. Lindelof wears a "NY Yanks '10 Champs" shirt and Cuse wears one that says, "Obama: Four More Years." Cuse also had an eye patch that he claimed was gouged out by an angry fan.

Lindelof and Cuse then introduced "Hans von Eagan," a representative from the Dharma Initiative who they claimed was sponsoring the panel. He showed off interview footage shot at the con of fans undergoing a "Blade Runner"-esque Dharma Initiative test, featuring the best answers to mysterious questions like "There's a turtle lying in the sun. You're not helping it. Why?"

The panel then moved directly into Q and A's where a number of little hints were dropped:

When asked if Rousseau would get a flashback, the response was, "We will say this: You will see, definitively, Rousseau's story. But to say 'flashback' might be disingenuous," and, "Danielle Rosseau will be in season five."

Lindelof went on to explain that, though there will still be flashbacks and flashforwards, there will also be something completely new that starts happening in the structure of the show.

Soon, the showrunners revealed a surprise appearance by Matthew Fox who joined the panel just in time for a little girl ask, "Will Kate ever see Sawyer again?"

Lindelof shouted in an accusatory tone, "Not if Jack has anything to say about it!"

Cuse followed up with, "Yes, Kate will see Sawyer again."

Other promises included the revelatory, "Jin [and Locke] will still be on the show in some form. You have not seen the last of either of those characters... Dead is a relative term."

Another question was about Vincent the dog who, "... is alive and well and will appear in season five. [It's] safe to say that he'll make it to the end of the show."

As for Richard Alpert (specifically how many toes he has) the answer was, "You're gonna see Richard barefoot in the future. That's pun-intended. The very near future."

The panel ended with one of the Dharma test-takers running onto the stage and showing off footage that he claimed to have bootlegged from the Dharma booth on the exhibit hall floor. The footage was another message from Francois Chau's character, split up by static bursts. He tries to tell someone that he has knowledge of the future and proves it by providing facts about the modern world. It ends with, "-- violent purge. One that we are apparently powerless to escape," and a plead to reconstitute the Dharma initiative in the present day.

"Time isn't just of the essence," he says, "It is the essence."

Little Britain

by the_real_linda @ 2008-07-24 - 12:35:13

Steroid-chomping bodybuilders, hideous beauty pageant wannabes and obsessed dog owners: they're just some of the crazed characters who couch potatoes can expect to meet in the new series of Little Britain.

Little Britain USA, slated to premiere on American pay TV network HBO in September, introduces several new characters created by award-winning comedians David Walliams and Matt Lucas - and many of them sound just as crude as fans would expect from the blackly humorous series.

According to British paper The Daily Mail, the fresh faces include Tom and Mark, bodybuilders who frolic naked in their gym - showing off their sizeable muscles and, er, other assets - while boasting about their female conquests.

Walliams described the characters as "possibly the most outrageous we've ever done".

Walliams and Lucas will continue the Little Britain tradition of donning dresses: in one new sketch Lucas plays an unfortunate-looking little girl with aspirations of winning beauty pagents, while Walliams plays her bossy mother.

Another new character is Bing Gordyn, "the eighth man on the moon", who's bitter about the lack of recognition he has received for his achievement.

Little Britain favourites such as foul-mouthed schoolgirl Vicki Pollard, political aide Sebastian Love and Harvey - a British aristocrat whose parents still breastfeed him and wipe his bottom - will also make a return.

From Joss Whedon

by the_real_linda @ 2008-07-12 - 14:09:46

Joss Whedon has presented his plan, which includes a three part, gratis, time-limited web-streamed Superhero musical featuring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion.

"A LETTER FROM JOSS WHEDON

Dear Friends,

At last the time has come to reveal to you our Master Plan. BEWARE! Those with weak hearts should log off lest they be terrified by the twisted genius of our schemes! Also pregnant women and the elderly should consider reading only certain sentences. Do not mix with other blogs. Do not operate heavy machinery while reading this blog. You must be this tall to read. ‘Kay?

It is time for us to change the face of Show Business as we know it. You know the old adage, “It’s Show Business – not Show Friends”? Well now it’s Show Friends. We did that. To Show Business. To show Show Business we mean business. (Also, there are now other businesses like it.)

ONE WEEK ONLY! AN INTERNET MINISERIES EVENT!

"Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog" will be streamed, LIVE (that part’s not true), FREE (sadly, that part is) right on Drhorrible.com, in mid-July. Specifically:

Heroes Season 3

by the_real_linda @ 2008-07-10 - 18:41:18

Spoilers from Digital Spy

# Nathan Petrelli is apparently dead. We see him rushed to hospital, where resuscitation attempts fail. "There was nothing we could do," a doctor tells the family. I don't believe it.

# Looks like Elle (Kristen Bell) is going to be spending a bit of time sparring with Sylar this season.

# Angela Petrelli introduces us to "Level 5", a housing place for the most dangerous criminals in the world - rapists, arsonists, killers. Presumably this is where the band of Villains escape from.

# Matt Parkman is alone in the middle of a desert screaming for help.

# New Villain 'The Speedster' steals something from Hiro and quips, "Gotta run."

# Is Sylar in league with Angela Petrelli? In one short clip he is seen approaching her from behind and placing his hands on her shoulders.

# Linderman is back with a prophecy of doom. "The second coming is at hand," he warns.

# And, perhaps the most shocking tease of all: a big bald man, incarcerated in Level 5, shouts: "I'm not who you think I am. I'm Peter Petrelli..."

The third season of Heroes will play out on BBC Two and BBC Three (and BBC HD) from the end of September, with a delay of just eight days on the original US broadcast. The season will comprise two "volumes", each containing 13 and 12 episodes respectively.
